The Statue of Unity is a tribute to the Indian leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, unveiled on 31 October 2018. The Statue of Sardar Patel is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and independence activist Vallabhbhai Patel, who was the First Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Independent India and an adherent of Mahatma Gandhi during the nonviolent Indian independence movement. Patel was highly respected for his leadership in uniting 562 princely states of India with a major part of the former British Raj to form the single Union of India.
This Statue of Unity is a patriotic symbol of the legacy of a man who spent his life in the struggle for freedom. As a mark of respect, the statue is located at his birthplace in Gujarat. The Statue of Unity is Designed by Ram V. Sutar. The total amount for the project is around 3000 crore – US $430 million. The statue stands 182 metres high, making it World’s Tallest Statue in the world, second to the St. Louis Arch. The height of 182 meters is kept as the Gujarat state has 182 numbers of seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.
